Solitaries in the yurt

building the yurt

We now have a yurt available as a solitary retreat dwelling at Akashavana for dharmacarinis, women mitras and women who have asked for ordination. The yurt (which used to belong to Harsharatna) is 18 feet (5.5m) in diameter and approximately 12 feet (4m) at the highest point. You can stand in it at all points. Natural light comes through the hub which is covered by clear plastic and through the perspex windows in the door. The floor is wooden and is raised about 3 feet (1m) off the ground at the front and has a small deck outside the door. The views from the yurt are wonderful and there are some great walks in the surrounding mountains. Apart from the support community of 3 there is no one else living in the mountains for miles around.

There is a two-burner gas top to cook with inside the yurt. Toilet, washing and washing up facilities are outside in the fresh air! The yurt is situated about 150 metres up the hill from the support community house at Akashavana so you will occasionally hear noises from outside the house. The community house is not visible from the yurt.

We ask that you come for a minimum of ten days arriving at the town of Valderrobres in Lower Aragon. You need to arrive and leave on a weekday to make use of public transport to or from the area.

Because of the remoteness and wildness of the area (no popping out for tea and cakes!) we ask that you have previous experience of being on solitary retreat.

The cost of the yurt is £125 a week or £17.85 per night (€180/€25.50) with all food provided and inclusive of pick-up and drop-off after your retreat.
